South Branch Library may close

Sept. 13– LA CROSSE, Wis.

According to the La Crosse Public Library’s Facebook page, the La Crosse Library Board proposed that the South Branch Library be closed due to budget shortfalls. The proposal came during a meeting with the Board of Estimates.

There will be a final vote in November by the City Council whether or not the library will close.


Downtown music venue struggles to meet bank deadlines

Sept. 25– LA CROSSE, Wis.

The Warehouse has received nearly $23,000 of its original $62,400 IndieGoGo “Rescue Campaign” funds from donors who gave money but had funds returned because the IndieGoGo campaign did not reach its goal, according to the Warehouse’s website. 

The Warehouse is a non-alcoholic music venue in downtown La Crosse which has been slated for closure due to debt in the first week of October if it does not receive the original IndieGoGo donations amount. 

Further deadlines for obtaining the full amount required by the bank will remain even if the full campaign funds are returned. Condos are scheduled to replace The Warehouse if the debt cannot be paid.


Marvel’s new show receives encore 

Sept. 26– nationwide

Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” had the biggest drama opening on television since 2009 with nearly 11.9 million viewers, earning an encore of its season premiere on ABC Thurs., Sept. 26, according to the show’s Facebook page.

Theatre Department production of Little Women

Sept. 27– LA CROSSE, Wis.

The Viterbo University theatre department will perform Little Women: The Broadway Musical on the Fine Arts Center Main Stage from Oct. 11-13. Performance times are 7:30p.m. Oct. 11-12, and 2p.m. Oct. 13. Tickets are $23 main floor, $20 lower balcony and $17 upper balcony. 


Viterbo hosts Theatre Conference

Sept. 27– LA CROSSE, Wis.

Nearly 20 theatre educators from Wisconsin attended the annual Alliance for Wisconsin Theatre Education conference and workshop sessions on Fri., Sept. 27, in the Viterbo Fine Arts Center. Areas represented included Manitowoc, Milwaukee and Wisconsin Rapids. 

Former School District of La Crosse Superintendent Jerry Kember made an appearance to speak briefly about the important role of arts programs in education.
