Viterbo’s seventh annual dodge ball tournament is slated to be held Saturday, Dec. 1. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m., with team check-in beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Registration for this year’s Dodgefest will be open starting Nov. 5 and will be closing at 5 p.m. on Nov. 28. However, Amanda Meyer, assistant director of Viterbo’s recreational sports department, encourages early registration, as the tournament is limited to the first 24 teams.

With teams for the tournament consisting of six players, there is a registration fee of $20 per team.

It is not necessary to be a member of the Viterbo community in order to participate in the event. Registration is open to the public, with the only restriction being that all participants must be over the age of 18.

A collaboration between Viterbo’s Recreational Sports Department and Western Technical College’s intramural staff, Dodgefest is a charity dodge ball tournament, taking place each December in the Amie L. Mathy Center.

The tournament first kicked off in 2006, with the goal of helping out the surrounding community. Participants are encouraged to bring both monetary donations and non-perishable food items.

In exchange for these donations, participants will receive raffle tickets. According to the Rec Sports website, a $2 donation equates to one raffle ticket, and a donation of $5 will buy three raffle tickets. The non-perishable food will be exchanged for every three items translating to one raffle ticket.

According to Meyer, all monetary donations collected will support The Mathy Center Boys and Girls Club, while the food donations will be delivered to The Place of Grace.

Chris Dunn, a senior sports management major from Hancock, Wis., has participated in the tournament for the past two years and is a member of the reigning championship team.

Dunn describes Dodgefest as “a great way to interact with other students and friends from all over,” and would recommend participation to “as many students as possible.”
