Sponsored by the MBA Alumni Chapter and an undergraduate events management class, the Friar Frolic is a 3.1 mile run and walk. Kicking off in Assisi Courtyard, this year’s race will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, with a starting time of 9 a.m.

Registration for Viterbo students costs $8, with all other racers paying $20, and the Children’s Alumni Dash is $5.

The Friar Frolic festivities will begin Friday Oct. 12, with packet pickup taking place from 5-8p.m. in the Nursing Center lobby. This will coincide with the spaghetti dinner, sponsored by the Student Dietetics Association, which will be held in Room 195 of the Nursing Center.

If unable to make it to the packet pick up on Friday night, there will be another opportunity Saturday morning, from 8-8:45a.m. in Assisi Courtyard. The race will then begin promptly at 9a.m. with the awards being announced around 10:30am.

With the goal of promoting health and fitness around campus, the Friar Frolic held its inaugural race in fall 2011.

“This year, we wanted to give back to the Viterbo community somehow. That’s why we decided to initiate the food drive,” said Alumni Relations Director Kathy Duerwachter.

A section of the VUSM seminar, serving the common good, will be present the day of the race collecting non-perishable food items, as well as monetary donations, all of which will be used to help stock the Viterbo food pantry.

The food pantry is located on the second floor of the Fine Arts Center and is open to all Viterbo students. “Anybody can stop by: no questions asked,” Duerwachter said.

This year’s event was coordinated with alumni weekend, as well as an admissions day, in hopes of creating an intergenerational activity for the Viterbo community: involving past, present and future students, stated Duerwachter.

If students would like to get involved in the Friar Frolic but physical activity is not what they’re looking for, volunteering is always an option. In addition to the 108 participants, last year’s race brought in 70 volunteers, and this year, coordinators are hoping for an even better turn out.

The registration form may be accessed by clicking on the Friar Frolic icon at http://www.viterbo.edu/viterbodays. While pre-registration is encouraged, registration will also be available the day of the race in Assisi Courtyard beginning at 8 a.m.
