On Jan. 28 and 29, the Viterbo V-Hawk bowling teams hosted their first-ever home meet at Pla Mor Lanes in La Crosse.

Both the men and women had strong showings, with each placing second to conference foes Ashford University and St. Ambrose University, respectively.

On the men’s side, Viterbo finished second in the qualifying portion of the tournament and advanced to the championship round of the tournament before falling to Ashford. Junior Greg Pizl led the V-Hawks with a fifth-place finish individually.

The V-Hawk women emerged from qualifying play as the top seed before falling to the Bees of St. Ambrose in the championship round. Junior Rachel Schalow put together an outstanding weekend, emerging as the women’s individual champion and was the only female bowler to notch over one thousand pins on the weekend.

“Winning the individual side of the tournament was a dream come true,” Schalow said. “It has always been a personal goal of mine to win a college tournament and I couldn’t be more honored to win my first one at the V-Hawk Invitational.”

Schalow also commented on the team’s goals for the rest of the season: “The ultimate goal for our team is to make it to nationals. Nationals is a tournament that we have been waiting for all season and I’m hoping that all our hard work will pay off.”

Results from the men’s and women’s teams’ efforts at the MCC championships were not available at press time.
