Homecoming will ‘Shine On’

Homecoming festivities, scheduled for the week of Feb. 13-18, fell over the day of love this year. In the spirit of Feb. 14, SAB sponsored an event called “Get Kissed by an SAB Member.” Also, students could wear red or pink to receive Hershey’s Kisses. The members of Student Activities Board (SAB) do most of the preparation for homecoming. The theme “Shine On” was inspired by Ke$ha, said Kari Reyburn, the coordinator of campus activities.

A number of events are planned for each day such as free ice skating at the Omni Center and a game night in the Hawk’s Nest. New this year is an outdoor winter tailgate before the men’s and women’s basketball games. There will be free food, hot chocolate, spirit items, and a multitude of activities.

The homecoming dance will be held on Feb. 18 at the La Crosse Center, where it has been for the last few years. The Wisconsin Honorary of Involved Leaders (WHIL) is sponsoring a dollar dance with Vic the V-Hawk. All proceeds collected will go to Relay for Life. Also, the homecoming king and queen will be announced at the dance.

The lip dub will not be filmed during homecoming week as it was last year, but SAB still plans on doing it later in the semester. Reyburn said, “Right now, it is scheduled to be filmed on March 24,” Reyburn said. “We want to do it when it is nicer outside.”
