What’s happened: A 3-0 start included a win over nationally ranked UW-River Falls. A four game losing streak followed, including a 17 point loss to UW-La Crosse. Wins over Martin Luther College and MCC opponent Clarke University put the V-Hawks back above .500 at 5-4 overall.

Key moments: The win over River Falls was a big one for a young team. Sophomore guard Matt Turba put up 26 points in the win over the Falcons, while Izac Sheforgen, Cole Lewis, and Jordan Laufenberg also notched double-digit point totals in that win. In getting a win against Clarke, the team has set itself up for a chance to be a contender in the MCC.

Statistical leaders: Redshirt freshman Laufenberg averages 14.1 points, with Sheforgen, Turba, and Lewis all average double figures as well. Laufenberg is shooting a blistering 61 percent from the field, including 54 percent from behind the three point line. Lewis paces the team with six rebounds per contest, while Turba has 46 assists through nine games.

Looking forward: This is a very young team; of the team’s eight regular contributors, there are two juniors and no seniors. Size and depth could be issues, as the team’s bench has only contributed about seven points per game so far. The V-Hawks have showed flashes of potential, but will need to be more consistent to climb the MCC standings. A trip to Hawaii is the highlight of Viterbo’s pre-Christmas schedule.
