Third time’s a charm for Paul
Former Beatle Paul McCartney wed again on Sunday, Oct. 9. His new bride is American heiress Nancy Shevell. The wedding was much more low-key than Sir Paul’s previous one with model Heather Mills. However, a slew of celebrities, such as Mick Jagger and Barbara Walters, attended the wedding in London.
Apple co-founder dies
Steve Jobs, one of the innovators of everything Apple and iPod, died on Wednesday, Oct. 5. His death was not unexpected because Jobs had been struggling with cancer for years. He was one of the first computer engineers to realize the appeal of letting users operate computers by clicking on text with a mouse rather than writing text.
Excitement in Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Brewers have advanced to their first league championship series since 1982. Spark-plug centerfielder Nyjer Morgan singled home Carlos Gomez for the game-winning run in the 10th inning of the deciding Game 5 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Morgan and the rest of the ‘Crew’ will take on the division rival, St. Louis Cardinals, for a chance to go to the World Series.
Occupy Wall Street spreads
On Sept. 17, the Occupy Wall Street movement started in Manhattan. It was fueled by the state of the economy, high unemployment rates, and the complaint that capitalism got us here. Now, all over the country protests are breaking out. People from all over the political and ideological spectrum are coming together to express their opinions about the economy.
