Viterbo will host the Wisconsin Private Colleges Championship on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Pettibone Park. The women’s six kilometer race will be held at 10:30 a.m., while the men’s eight kilometer race will be held at 11:15 a.m..

Viterbo’s competitors at the meet will include Alverno, Beloit, Cardinal Stritch, Maranatha Baptist, Marian, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Mt. Mary, Northland, Ripon, Silver Lake, Wisconsin Lutheran, and defending champions St. Norbert.

John Metelko, Viterbo’s head coach both cross country teams, sees the meet as a “great tune-up for the conference championships.”

The women’s team from Viterbo is having a dominant year led, by senior Bea Foley. They will look to avenge their runner-up finish from last year, when St. Norbert outpaced the V-Hawk harriers. The Viterbo women did win the event in 2009, however.

On the men’s side, Viterbo is looking to continue to improve. They’re coming off a second place finish at the Olde English Classic at Beloit College. Patrick Understeller and Daniel Beltz have been the most consistent runners for the V-Hawks, and they’ll try lead the team to an improvement on the fifth place finish the team earned at this meet last year.

Admission is free to all fans who’d like to go and watch nearly 200 runners compete for a title.
