10 Year Anniversary of 9/11

Last week, rumors were rampant about possible repeat attacks. On Sunday, New York City reflected on the September 11 attacks as the rest of the country once again asked the question: Where were you on 9/11?

More Storms

Remnants of tropical storm Lee continued to flood the northeast. The storm caused many roads to close and evacuations where there was too much flooding. The new storms complicated the continuing cleanup from Irene and in some cities, cleanup must start over.

Hope for Unity in Libya

New Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril called for national unity in order to rebuild the country torn apart from the six month civil war. Jibril warned that the violence may not be over. Loyalists from the past regime still control some cities.

Obama’s Presidential Address to Congress

“It will not add to the deficit. It will be paid for,” said President Obama about his American Jobs Act. During the Thursday speech to Congress, he revealed the new plan to create jobs and increase taxes on the wealthy. “We’ll out build, out innovate, and out educate. […] America can be number one again,” he said, urging Congress to “stop the political circus and actually do something to help the economy.” This address comes after the report of no new jobs in the U.S. in August.

Shoes of the Future!

Nike unveiled its design for the limited edition shoe based on the pair worn by Marty McFly in the movie “Back to the Future II.” It is called the 2011 Nike Mag and it is an exact replica of the movie version—glowing logo and all! Unfortunately, these shoes do not tie themselves (collective nerd sigh). All proceeds from the shoes go to Michael J. Fox’s Foundation for Parkinson Disease.
