Latest Update:

Viterbo swept their home tournament on Sept. 10, going 3-0 and improving their overall record to 12-2.

Whenever a team wins 38 games and runs the table in regular season conference play, there are some big shoes to fill.

After losing three seniors who made big contributions last season, there was some uncertainty headed into this fall. After a 3-2 start in August, it seemed unlikely that the V-Hawks would be able to duplicate the dominant team from last year.

That all changed, however, with seven straight wins, including two over nationally ranked opponents and one against conference rival Waldorf College.

Coach Ryan DeLong, for one, had confidence in his group all along: “The culture of the team remains the same as does our team expectations. Our culture is always about working hard, with a positive attitude-if we can do those two things we will have success. “

Returning junior Katie Flock agrees, stating, “I don’t think that our team culture has changed one bit…if anything it has gotten better.” Flock also lists the V-Hawks’ upset loss in the Midwest Collegiate Conference tournament last season as a “huge motivational factor” for the upperclassmen on the team.

“I think that every week we are continuing to make improvements and we all strive to make improvements individually and as a team,” commented junior Hannah Ripp. “We have set our goals high this year. We are working towards another conference title this year, qualify for nationals, and to have 38+ wins.”

The team is on the road for the next two weeks, but will return home for contests on Sept. 27 and 28.
