The men’s basketball team saw its season come to an end in the quar¬terfinal round of the Midwest Col-legiate Conference Tournament on Feb. 20 at R.W. Beggs Gymnasium to the hands of conference foe and 5-seed Grand View University. The loss marked the last games for se¬niors, Alex Koeller and Sekou Moore as V-Hawks.
In the 76-72 overtime loss, the V-Hawks were led in scoring by junior Izac Sheforgen who scored a game high 24 points and 8 rebounds. Fel¬low junior, Matt Turba contributed 17 points for the V-Hawks.
In his final game as a V-Hawk, Koeller hit a 3-pointer with 3.7 seconds left to force the game into overtime. However, the V-Hawks could not maintain a lead to capture the victory.
The V-Hawks ended their 2012-2013 season with an overall record of 16-15 and a conference record of 6-6. The season saw much progress, as the V-Hawks improved upon their 2011-2012 season, by winning fifth games more than last season and qualifying for the conference tourna¬ment.
Next year, the V-Hawks will welcome 6’1” Jake Bemke, a guard from Neenah, Wis. for the 2013-2014 season. With four starters return¬ing next season for the V-Hawks, the team will look to continue upon their success from this season.
