The Viterbo V-Hawk softball team simply hasn’t been able to develop any consistency this spring. The two victories the team posted on Saturday, April 14 are the team’s first consecutive wins of the spring.
Four of the team’s wins have come with sophomore Ali Vanhavermaet toeing the rubber. Vanhavermaet has also been a major contributor at the plate with a .310 batting average.
Outfielder Melissa Weaver has put together an outstanding senior season for the V-Hawks. She leads the team in batting average (.342), doubles (9), home runs (5), and runs batted in (20).
Weaver, however, is the only senior on the roster. Leading the charge for the large group of underclassmen is freshman Maddy Podmolik. Podmolik is batting .325 with five home runs and has started every game but one in her first season as a V-Hawk. She also has half of the team’s fourteen total stolen bases.
At press time, the V-Hawks held a record of 9-19, 7-9 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. They will close their regular season with a conference doubleheader at home against William Penn University on April 24. They were scheduled to play four additional games against conference opponents before Lumen’s release.
